Claire Langan

Clare Langan  was born in Ireland in 1967. In 1989 she received her First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art from the NCAD, Dublin and completed a film workshop at New York University in 1992. Her film Metamorphosis, in 2007 won the Principle Prize at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, Germany. Clare Langan’s work has been shown worldwide, solo exhibitions include: The ice above, the fire below, and other works (2007-2009), Limerick City Art Gallery, New Work, Fenton Gallery(2008), Cork, and Solo Exhibition at Miguel Marcos Gallery, Barcelona (2008). In 2003 Langan presented “A Film Trilogy” at the Museum of Modern Art New York and the RHA, Dublin. She represented Ireland at the 25th Bienale de Sao Paulo, Brazil 2002 and the International 2002, Tate Liverpool for the Liverpool Biennial. Clare Langan’s practice is characterised by a crossover between photography, film and painting. Langan uses painterly techniques to alter and enhance her photographic images, such as hand painted filters and lens attachments. Her work is in the collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin Institute of Technology, University College Dublin, University College Cork as well as many other private collections. Langan represented Ireland at Sound and Visions, Art Film and Video from Europe, Museum of Modern Art Tel Aviv in February 2009.
