Dick Joynt
Dick Joynt was born in Dublin in 1938. He worked in the Dublin Art Foundry from 1972 until 1982 and later settled in Enniscorthy with his family where he worked full time as a sculptor until his death in 2003. His sculpture has been described as having references of pre-Columbian and Polynesian art but with a distinctive Irish finish characterised by full curvilinear forms, mainly in stone or wood. He is one of Ireland’s most successful public artists and completed many public commissions including The Ram, Bray, Co. Wicklow, Bust of Micheal Collins, Merrion Square, Dublin, and Earthmother at Dublin Airport. Joynt exhibited widely during his lifetime including several solo exhibitions such as a retrospective of painting and drawing at Éigse 2004, Wexford Art Centre, 2004, and Kilcock Art Gallery, 1993. Group exhibition shows include Opera Festival Show, Kellys Resort Hotel, Rosslare, 1992-2000, Aer Rianta, Gateway to Art, 1999, RHA Banquet Exhibition, 1996. His work is held in many public and private collections including A.I.B Bank; Allied Investment Bank; Kildare County Council; Central Bank; Bank of Ireland; Aer Rianta, Dublin; National Self Portrait Collection, University of Limerick.
Dick Joynt exhibited in Éigse annually from 1982-1992 inclusive.
