Iain McColl

Born in 1947, Iain McColl is a renowned Scottish sculptor who has established himself as one of the leading artists making public art in the UK. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. His most recent public art commissions include a new Gateway Sculpture on one of Belfast’s most prominent roundabouts as part of Belfast City Council’s Renewing the Routes programme and the Cottrell memorial Sculpture at Sterling University. Previous commissions include British Rail, Scottish Arts Council, and Highland Regional Council. In 1993 he was appointed official war artist to Bosnia by the Ministry of Defence to UNPROFOR. Other commissions include, Loch Feochan, Glasgow (video wall), Guardian Angel, Ireland, Achnacloich Tower, Argyll, Zephir Winds, Glasgow, Cockerel UK wide (millennium milepost) and Weather Station, Glasgow. He has exhibited widely in the UK. He was sculpture in residence at Éigse in 1991.
