Peter Prendergast was one of Britain’s leading landscape painters. Inspired by the surroundings of his Snowdonia home, his bold expressionist paintings are noted for their vigour and energy. Born in Abertridwr, South Wales in 1946, he trained at Slade School of Art, where he was taught by Frank Auerbach. He exhibited widely in Britain and abroad including most recently Drawings, Martin Tinney Gallery, 2009, Commemorative Exhibition, Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno, and Newport Museum, 2007 and important group exhibitions such as Wales on Canvas, the Welsh Assembly and British Council, Brussels, 2007 and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition every year, 1997-2004 amongst many others. His work is included in many private and public collections including the Tate Gallery, The National Museum of Wales, Stadts Gallery, Stuttgart, and the British Museum and Art Council Collection. Peter Prendergast died suddenly in January 2007, aged 60 years.
