Sean Henry was born in England in 1965 and studied at Bristol Polytechnic and the University of California. His work, mainly large, oil painted, figurative pieces in corten steel or clay, has enjoyed an unusual combination of near universal critical and popular acclaim. His work is in major public collections and sites throughout the world. From July to October 2011 Henry’s exhibition will be shown in and around Salisbury Cathedral on existing, currently empty, plinths and in other carefully chosen locations both inside and outside the building. His installations, group and solo exhibitions cover London, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Venice, Stockholm, Geneva, Sidney and Florida. The last edition of Catafalque – seen outside VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art throughout Éigse Carlow 2010 – has been bought by the Fredrik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan, one of the world’s top one hundred most visited art museums in the world.
Henry had solo exhibitions in Éigse Carlow in 1999 and 2005 and was also selected to take part in Éigse’s thirty-year retrospective at VISUAL Carlow in 2010.
